Length of High Street bank's ATM fault 'outrageous'

SOME ATM users in Ballymoney have certainly not been laughing all the way to the bank.

That’s because complaints have come in about the length of time the cash dispenser at Bank of Ireland at High Street has been out of action.

The machine has been ‘playing up’ since the start of July and coincided with some of the busiest weeks of the year in the town.

Ballymoney is always buzzing in July as people are in the town preparing for the Twelfth or snapping up last minute purchases ahead of going on holiday.

And then there is also an influx of holiday makers to the area during the Twelfth Fortnight and many of them are Bank of Ireland customers.

One customer said: “Because I work I cannot get into the bank so I rely on the ATM for looking at statements but with it out of action I have been out of the loop. At least the Northern Bank machine is working and you can lift out money there but then you can’t see your balance or anything like that.”

Another Ballymoney businessman said: “It is outrageous that a major bank like the Bank of Ireland should have their machine not working properly for three weeks at one of the busiest times of the year in a town the size of Ballymoney.

“You would think somebody could come along and get it sorted quicker than that,” he added.

A Bank of Ireland spokesperson said: “Due to a fault with the communications system at the Bank of Ireland ATM in Ballymoney the service at the site has been intermittent since July 2nd. The fault is currently under investigation and we are working closely with our telecomms provider to rectify the problem as soon as possible. We apologise for any inconvenience caused to customers as a result of this issue.”

On Friday July 23 the machine appeared to be working.
