Less therapistsin WHSCT

THERE are fewer occupational therapists employed in the Western Trust than anywhere else in Northern Ireland, according to the Health Minister Edwin Poots.

There are 36 therapists for every 100,000 people here. Only in the South Eastern Trust (33.4 for every 100k) are there fewer occupational therapists per head of population.

Occupational therapist aim to promotes patients’ independence by facilitating their return to home and work after illness.

Whilst there are 43 for every 100k people in Northeren Ireland there are only 36 for every 100k in this area.

The Belfast (210.97), Northern (186.99), Southern (152.78) and South Eastern (115.78) Trusts all have a bigger staff complement than the Western Trust were there are 107.8 occupational therapists.
