Let clinics know if you cant attend: Devenney

Mr Devenney, who visited the Out Patients department at Altnagelvin Hospital, last week, with a relative, said: “A total of 1,319 patients had failed to attend their out patient appointment during May. I am shocked at these figures at a time when the health Service is under severe financial pressure.

“When I hear of patients waiting for appointments for a month or more it is concerning to learn so many appointments are missed.

“There should be an onus on patients to attend appointments and if they cannot make it they should inform the clinic so other patients can avail of the appointment.

“This basic courtesy would make space available for emergencies or short notice appointments.

“Even if half were able to be passed on to those who have been waiting it would make a huge difference to people’s lives.”
