Let's Run Together!

THE Ballymoney Cancer Research Committee has given preliminary notice of their fourth annual fun run on Friday 28 May at 7.00 pm in the Riverside Park, Ballymoney

This follows on from last year's successful event when 3060 was raised for Cancer Research.

Last year there were over 100 participants including current Northern Ireland footballer Dean Shiels.

Started back in 2007, the annual event has so far boosted the coffers of Cancer Research to the tune of over 8,500.

The Fun Run as it was known previously has been renamed Run Together Ballymoney 2010 - a nod to Cancer Research's motto 'Together we will beat cancer'.

Chairman, Mervyn Ferris said: "Again we have secured the support of an array of local athletics clubs and sporting stars who will take part in the fundraising event and we are offering members of the public the opportunity to line up alongside these sports stars whilst at the same time raising money for Cancer Research UK."

"A number of people have already pledged to take part including players from Ballymoney Rugby Club's Towns' Cup winning side, Glebe Rangers and Scorpion Boxing Club." And Coleraine FC stars Steven Carson, Howard Beverland, Kyle Mc Vey and Darren Boyce.

The 5K run for the more serious competitors is scheduled to begin at 7.00 pm followed by the Fun Run and walk. This is designed so as everyone is given an equal opportunity to take part and we are anticipating the usual large turnout from members of the public.

Mervyn added: "We are pleased to announce sponsorship of water has been obtained from John Street Spar, and the fruit from Tesco Ballymoney for all those taking part.

"A free Cancer Research T shirt will also be given to the first 50 people handing in 20 or more sponsorship money on the evening."

Sponsor forms can be obtained from Mervyn Ferris 07703 582 734 or from Chris in the Ballymoney Times Office.

Further details will follow in the weeks leading up to the event.
