Letterkenny Ebola test has come back negative, says HSE

The Dublin Health Service Executive (HSE) has confirmed that laboratory test samples for an individual, Dessie Quinn, who recently returned from Africa and died in Mountcharles in Donegal, proved negative for the Ebola Virus.

The public health department was made aware on Thursday (August 21) of Mr Quinn’s death. He had recently travelled to the one of the areas in Africa affected by the current Ebola virus disease outbreak.

The body of the deceased was isolated at Letterkenny General Hospital to minimise the potential spread of any possible virus.

Infection control procedures, which had been put in place as a precautionary measure, will now be stepped down. The HSE expressed its condolences to the individual’s family and friends for their loss.
