Leukaemia charity to benefit from computer skills of local student

PORTSTEWART student Joseph McLaughlin will be spending the summer putting his computer skills to good use helping a local leukaemia charity.

Joseph (PICTURED RIGHT) has been awarded a special summer studentship by the Northern Ireland Leukaemia Research Fund (NILRF) to undertake an eight week computer-based project in the Centre for Cancer Research and Cell Biology (CCRCB) in Belfast.

Joseph has completed one year of his degree in Business and IT at Queen’s University Belfast, and will be working on a number of computer-based projects including developing the website and social media for the charity. The experience that Joseph will gain during the summer will not only contribute to the charity’s fundraising work, but will also benefit his future studies and career path.

Joseph will be working alongside the Leukaemia Research Group, based in the Centre for Cancer Research and Cell Biology (CCRCB) at Queen’s University Belfast.

Professor Ken Mills, Lead of the Leukaemia Research Focus Group in the CCRCB, said “This innovative summer research studentship demonstrates that the NILRF is committed to using the latest technologies to communicate with potential supporters and increase fundraising donations.
