Liam in awe of public support for his sit-out

Ballymoney’s Black Santa Liam Beckett completed his tenth annual sit out on Christmas Eve and although he doesn’t know the total amount raised for his chosen charities, he was overwhelmed with the generosity of people from the Ballymoney area and further afield.

“The support I have had has just been fantastic,” said Liam. “You don’t see some of the people from one Christmas to the next but they are so generous and kind. “We got off to an excellent start with the £1034 raised at the Big Breakfast at Roadside Garages and am extremely thankful for all their help and support.

“I even had a gentleman who travelled by taxi and train from Doagh to Belfast and then to Ballymoney to donate as well as people who have travelled from Lurgan, Belfast and Donegal. There was also a lady who came along and said ‘Liam I now get my winter heating allowance but I can afford to put oil in my tank. I know some of the people you are collecting for can’t so here is a cheque for my heating allowance money because I don’t need it and they do. She wasn’t away half an hour when another good friend donated £250.

“I’m unsure how much we have raised at the moment but I do think we might have beaten last year’s total because the response has been amazing. “There is a GoFundMe page which will remain up for a few days if anyone still wants to donate and with any luck we can raise a fantastic amount for these very worthy charities.” To donate go to: www.gofundme.com/t7fjt2bf
