Liam Lawton in Dunloy

LIAM Lawton will make his first appearance locally on Friday 26th February when he will perform at a concert in St Joseph's Church hall in Dunloy with his full concert supporting musicians.

The Parish Pastoral Council, who are behind the venture, are hoping that as many people as possible will come on the night to experience the words and music of Liam Lawton.

A spokesman for the Parish council said "This concert will appeal to people of all denominations. It is not about raising money. Liam has recently released an Album with the music centred on the theme of Healing. At this point in time, within the Christian Family, the community, the country, the World there is much need for healing.

"If we can get even one person to this concert that will hear some words of comfort and as a result take home with them some solace, some peace, then this concert will have been worthwhile. We should however not loose sight of the fact that Liam's music is very commercial and his concert performances are renowned for being very high quality productions supported by very professional musicians and enhanced by a comprehensive light and sound show".

Since "The Clouds Veil" became, in late 2002, arguably the most universally used piece of music in Churches across all denominations around New York and throughout the United States in the aftermath of the tragic events of 9/11, the name Liam Lawton has taken on a new resonance and meaning.

Liam is a composer /performer who has found a unique niche in Ireland and beyond, for his own particular style of music. Drawing on the great and rich spirituality of this ancient land, his music has been called "hauntingly numinous and melodic". Liam has recorded 12 albums to date and in 2004 was signed by recording giants EMI.

His four albums with this label have reached Platinum status in Ireland where he resides. His music has been recorded and performed by many of Ireland's top artists and has been translated into Irish, French German and Swedish. Liam has recorded a number of TV specials including two for PBS in the United States. He has collaborated with many of the greats from Stage and Screen including Gregory Peck, Joan Cusack, John Malkovic, Frank McCourt and some of his music has been arranged by Nick Ingman from the UK and Gary Fry- contemporary Arranger with The Chicago Symphony.
