Libraries announce City Of Culture events

The city’s libraries are continuing their celebrations for Derry~Londonderry City of Culture 2013 with a range of free events being held throughout April for people to call in and enjoy.

Waterside Library will host ‘Emigration - The Derry Story’, a talk by Brian Lambkin on Wednesday, April 17 at 7pm. Brian Lambkin is Director of the Mellon Centre for Migration Studies at the Ulster-American Folk Park in Omagh, past Chairman of the Association of European Migration Institutions and former Principal of Lagan College, Belfast.

On Thursday, April 25 at 7pm, Without Walls & Public Works presents Desert Island Books by Jason Maher, featuring Genevieve Swift, in the Central Library.

Isabelle Blake is leaving her old life behind. She has been dreaming of escape for as long as she can remember and the family bookshop has always got in her way. But now there is a new man in her life and things are starting to get interesting. This funny and moving play is for anyone who has ever fallen in love with a book or dreamed of a new life.

After the play there will be a discussion and audience members are invited to bring along a book to swap and discuss their favourite reads with the cast.

Shantallow Library will see the Amelia Earhart Exhibition being launched by writer Felicity McCall on Monday, April 29, at 12pm. The Amelia Earhart Exhibition will be on display for people to call in and see during library opening hours from Monday, April 29, until Friday, May 10.

Admission to these events is free and everyone is welcome to come along.
