Light blocking trees get the chop in Ballymacoss

LAGAN Valley MLA Edwin Poots has welcomed the resolution of the on-going problem with the woodland corridor planted to the rear of homes at Windermere and houses at Limetree Lodge which residents said were blocking out the daylight.

Around 100 trees which planted to the rear of homes in the Ballymacoss area have been removed and the area cleaned up.

Mr Poots said they had held ‘numerous meetings’ with Ulidia Housing Association and the Planning Service over the last few years seeking a resolution to the on-going problems.

“We are pleased the Department of the Environment has confirmed that they no longer consider the replacement planting of these trees in the Woodland Management Phase 1 area, as a requirement. However, they have advised us that any future replacement will be a requirement for this particular area” he said.

Alderman William Leathem also welcomed on the news saying: “This will benefit the residents greatly, due to more daylight being in their gardens and in the Autumn season the reduction of leaves which would have gathered in their gardens.”
