Lights out in Londonderry on August 4, at 10pm

People in Londonderry are being invited to take part in the ‘Lights Out’ initiative from 10pm to 11pm on August 4, to commemorate the outbreak of World War 1.

People are being asked to leave on a single light or candle for a shared moment of reflection.

The project is being organised by 14-18 NOW, the official cultural programme for the First World War Centenary commemorations. Britain declared war on Germany at 11pm on 4 August 4, 1914, ushering in one of the darkest periods in history and people can take part in whatever way they chose, either individually or by attending an organised event.
