Limavady eateries gain entry into respectable guide

LIMAVADY has been revealed as one of the country's top quality towns for food and eating out after six local premises gained entry into Ireland's most respected food guide.

The Oven Door Bakery Limavady and Ballykelly, Norman Hunters Butcher and Deli, Keady Mountain Farm, The Limetree Restaurant and McNulty's Fish and Chip shop all received critical acclaim in the pages of the independent Bridgestone Irish Food Guide. The book, which is distributed across the UK and Ireland, awards credit on purely on merit and has marked Limavady as one of Ireland's top eating out places even beating competition off from large cities such as Derry. Unlike other food guides in which food producers pay for their entry, Bridgestone Irish food Guide is seen as a well respected and discriminatory judge of food culture. Stanley Matthews, manager of the award winning Limetree Restaurant on Catherine Street, says the news was something to "shout from the rooftops"

"Without a doubt there is no comparative town to Limavady when it comes to food culture. It's not often that the critics would head in this direction so to get six premises in their pages is astounding.

"The inspections were anonymous which were held sometime in late summer or early autumn and provide a snapshot of the magnificent service and quality of food we have in the area.

"All these premises have been trying really hard and I am very happy that it is just not one of us getting a pat on the back but six."

Limavady Borough Council's Culture, Arts and Tourism department sent its congratulations to the six establishments.
