Limavady flat fire was '˜deliberate'

A fire at a flat in Limavady at the weekend in which one man and two police officers were treated for smoke inhalation was '˜deliberate', according to the Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service.

A NIFRS spokesperson said:“NIFRS received a call at 2:05am to a report of a fire at residential premises at the Kennaught Terrace area of Limavady in the early hours of Sunday 10th April.

“Two fire appliances from Limavady Fire Station and one fire appliance from Dungiven Fire Station were deployed to the scene of a flat on fire in a two-storey building in the area. Firefighters using a hosereel jet and thermal imaging cameras dealt with the fire.

“One man and two PSNI officers were treated for smoke inhalation following the incident.

“Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service finished at the scene at 2:56am and the fire is being treated as deliberate. The incident has been passed through to the Police Service of Northern Ireland.”

Detective Sergeant Graham Glass urged anyone who may have noticed anyone acting suspiciously in the area, or who has any information about this incident, to contact Detectives at Reactive and Organised Crime, Coleraine on the non-emergency number 101.
