Limavady library invites you to celebrate National Families week

LIBRARIES NI is delighted to announce that libraries across Northern Ireland will be holding events to mark National Families Week, from May 31 to June 6 and Limavady Library is one of many inviting families to come along and be part of the week's celebrations.

National Families Week is the largest celebration of family life in the UK and local libraries are inviting families to join in the fun celebrations by coming along to Bedtime Reading and Family Week Story time events. Limavady Library is inviting you to come along and join in a Family Story time event which has the theme of Bedtime Stories. This free family event will take place on Saturday, May 29 from 11am – 11.30am. PJ's are the dress code and bring your bedtime toys with you! Everyone welcome.

National Family Week is a celebration of family and family life, encouraging families to play, learn, eat, read, be active and - most importantly - to spend quality time together – and Libraries NI was keen to be part this great family initiative to promote the benefits of quality family time and to encourage a healthier approach to family life. Research shows that the average family spends just 45 minutes a day together and the UK's families spend on average over twice as much time in front of the television than they do reading books every week. National Family Week, along with its partners, which includes Libraries NI, are encouraging families to improve on this, providing a range of events, activities, information and other great initiatives aimed at bringing families together. These free Libraries NI events are designed to give families the opportunity to come along to their local library and enjoy family story time or bedtime reading events in a relaxed and enjoyable environment.

Kim Aiken, Learning Development Manager with Libraries NI, explains: "Not only are we inviting families to mark National Family Week by taking part in one of many events arranged in local libraries, but we would encourage families to regularly share books at bedtime as this has positive outcomes for all children. Not only does it give children a love of books from a young age but it will improve the basic skills a child needs to succeed at school and in life. Local libraries are inviting all families to take part in a range of Bedtime reading and Story time events which are planned in libraries across Northern Ireland. Ask in your local library to find out what's happening to mark National Family Week." Teaching your child to read is one of the most important things you will achieve as a parent. To help your child get the reading bug, 100's of reading and book events will take place for families to enjoy the magic of sharing stories together. Enjoy Family Week Story Time and have a happy ending! Why not see what Storytime and Bedtime Reading events have been planned so far.
