Limavady Sinn Féin woman: 11th night is a ‘hate festival’

Councillor Chivers said: “The adorning of 11th night bonfires with posters, nationalist flags and slogans about ‘Kill all Taigs’ exposes the fact that this is not culture but a hate festival designed to appeal to and promote sectarianism and hatred.

“Every year we see bigger bonfires covered with items including religious icons designed to annoy the nationalist population.

“On one bonfire the slogan KAT meaning Kill all Taigs is clearly seen as well as Féile flags reported stolen from a local GAA club and it is reprehensible that the PSNI did not remove these items.

“As a member of the Policing and Community Safety Partnership (PCSP) I will be raising these issues as matter of urgency at the next meeting as the PSNI have a responsibility to stop hate crime and recover stolen items.

“I am also deeply saddened that not one Unionist politician has voiced their concerns over these issues which is in stark contrast to the meltdown they expressed when an Irish tricolour was recently raised at Stormont.”
