Limavady to host Co Londonderry's Grand Lodge parade for centenary of the Somme

The County Londonderry Grand Orange Lodge will be holding a special parade and church service in Limavady this Sunday (May 22), to mark the Centenary of the Battle of the Somme.

Members from Orange Lodges in Castledawson, Coleraine, Magherafelt, Garvagh, Kilrea, Ballyronan, Macosquin, Tamlaght O’Crilly, Moneymore and Tobermore Districts will join with their Limavady brethern to mark this occasion.

Representatives from the Junior and Womens Association will also be on parade as will members from the City Grand Lodge of Londonderry and East Donegal.

The parade will be lead by the Limavady Auld Orange Flute Band who will be in replica period uniform from the 1916 era accompanying them will Aughrim Rose of Derry Accordion Band and Cranny Pipe Band.

The parade will form up at 2.45pm on the Moneyrannel Road (old Ballykelly Road) and make its way to the church moving off at 3.20pm via Baranailt Road, Lisnakilly Road crossing the Roe Bridge where at the War Memorial wreathes will be left senior officers before continuing on Catherine Street, Linenhall Street and Main Street before finally arriving at Drumachose Parish Church for a service of Worship commencing at 4pm.

The service of Worship will be conducted by the Rector of Christ Church Rev Canon Samuel McVeigh.
