Limited service proposed for Scarva PO

AFTER more than two years without a dedicated postal service, residents of Scarva and the surrounding area might at last have their needs addressed.

Proposals for a mobile service in Scarva, which were made public last week by Post Office Ltd, are due to be scrutinised by local people and stakeholders.

The public consultation on the Mobile Outreach service, which would be based in Scarva Visitor Centre and open for two hours between 10am and 12pm every Monday, will last six weeks.

Scarva Post Office closed its doors on Christmas Eve in 2007 after a replacement sub postmaster could not be found for the branch. Since then people have been forced to travel to Tandragee, Loughbrickland and further afield.

The Mobile Post Office will allow customers in Scarva to access the same range of Post Office products and services that they previously received, with the added benefit of car tax facilities.

Mandy Donaldson, Field Change Advisor for Post Office Limited, said “Post Office Ltd proposes to introduce this service to help safeguard Post Office services in the long-term.

“The facilities and service that we provide to our customers is of paramount importance and we hope that customers in Scarva will welcome and support this restoration of service.”

If the proposal is welcomed the service could be up and running by April.
