Lincoln Court booze driver disqualified

A man who made a '˜foolish' decision to drive after drinking has been disqualified from driving for 12 months.

Mark Hamilton, of Lincoln Court, Waterside, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol on May 14.

The local Magistrates’ Court was told the 31-year-old was stopped by police at Limavady Road.

The officers noticed a smell of intoxicating liquor and Hamilton was arrested after he failed a preliminary breath test.

An evidential sample gave a reading of 59mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath.

Cormac McKeown, defending, said his client had consumed alcohol while watching a cricket match. He said Hamilton then made the ‘foolish’ decision to drive home. The solicitor added that Hamilton had only driven a short distance before he was stopped.

He told the court his client has now sold the car and this would cause him some difficulties in his personal life.

Disqualifying Hamilton, District Judge Barney McElholm also fined him £200.
