Line dance groups dance night away

TWO local line dancing groups will be putting their dancing shoes on tomorrow (Saturday) for a five hour non-stop line dance to raise money for charity.

Boots ‘n’ Buckles and the Hillsborough Hoedowners will be dancing at Hillsborough Social Club for Epilepsy Action Northern Ireland from 12noon - 5pm. The charity provides advice and support to the 13,000 people with epilepsy in Northern Ireland and the groups hope to raise £1,000 to support people living with epilepsy.

The dancers have undertaken a sponsored line dance to support local charities for the past 14 years. This year they decided to support Epilepsy Action Northern Ireland as one of the dancer’s daughter’s has epilepsy. The event also coincides with the beginning of National Epilepsy Week (May 15-21), which aims to raise awareness of epilepsy and raise funds to help support the 456,000 people living with epilepsy in the UK.

Denise Armstrong, who has organised the event, said: “We’re planning to dance a full five hours to support this great charity. The sponsored line dance is a great fun day, although it is very tiring. In previous years, we’ve raised £65,000 for local charities. I hope we can raise as much money as possible for Epilepsy Action this year.”

The day will also include dancing from 8pm to late to Stevie McVeigh and everyone is welcome - you don’t have to line dance to come and join in the fun.

Denise added: “Everyone can come along and enjoy the day. We’ll have free tea and coffee and there will be a tombola and a ballot and we are selling tickets for two hampers, it’s just a fun day.

“The girls are fantastic through the whole year. I’d just like to thank them, we couldn’t do it without their support through the whole year.”

Anyone who would like to support the event or to donate to the dancer’s efforts can contact Denise on 07793 710 311.
