Linen Hall Library ‘first’ for Carrickfergus woman

A Carrickfergus woman has been appointed as the first female librarian in the 227-year history of the Linen Hall Library, Belfast.

Samantha McCombe comes to the prestigious post from Allen and Overy, where she was Library and Research manager at

the law firm’s Belfast office.

An avid reader, Samantha’S professional memberships include the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (CILIP), and the British and Irish Association of Law Librarians (BIALL).

She said: “I am delighted to be joining such an influential and world-renowned library. I am excited to utilise my experience of running progressive library services and working with the dedicated and experienced team to ensure the preservation and accessibility of our unique collections.”

Her new appointment also completes the first ever all female senior team which includes Julie Andrews, director, Monica Cash, deputy librarian and Karen Law, finance manager.

Julie said: “Samantha McCombe joins the library with a strong background in librarianship and information management working for a variety of organisations. Her skills and experience will most definitely be an asset to the Linen Hall Library.”
