The event was an initiative of Ballymena Lions Club following links made by Lions Herbie Park & Pamela Park while visiting the area and meeting the President of the Lions Club in 2012.

Filmed for Gibraltar television and broadcast on local news channels, the event included a welcoming Trumpet Procession and speeches by the President of Ballymena Lions Club Anne Henry, Councillor Tommy Nicholl, who was Mayor when Ballymena & Gibraltar twinned in 2006, Chief Minister Fabian Picardo & Mayor of Gibraltar Anthony Lima.

Councillor Nicholl said: “This initiative to twin both Lions Clubs was welcomed and supported by Ballymena Borough Council and we look forward to developing further links through culture and education links in both areas.’

Ballymena Lions Club President Anne Henry said: We spent time as lion club members talking and sharing ideas and how we would now build on the foundations we have laid.

“There were quite a few suggestions that both clubs would like to follow up on and we will certainly do this in the coming months and years,” added Anne.
