Lipoedema awareness support

DUP Councillor Carla Lockhart has pledged to help campaigner Angela McCaroll raise awareness of Lipoedema with the newly formed branch of the ‘Talk Lipoedema’ charity.

Over 210,000 women in Ireland have a diagnosis of Lipoedema, a chronic and progressive disorder of the adipose tissue, often referred to as ‘painful fat syndrome’.

Mrs McCaroll has been working to improve services for these women. Mrs Lockhart said, “I attended the Talk Lipoedema Road Show on Saturday organised by Mrs Angela McCaroll. Angela has a real burden and passion to see better services, earlier diagnosis and more awareness of Lipoedema and the impact on women throughout the province. There are over 210,000 women who have been diagnosed with Lipoedema across Northern Ireland and the South of Ireland. The event had well over 60 in attendance and certainly was aimed at raising awareness, increasing support and putting Lipoedema firmly on the health agenda going forward.”
