Lisburn Council to host Meet the Buyer Event

LISBURN City Council will host its annual ‘Meet the Buyer’ event on the 4th September at Lagan Valley Island from 8.00am until 2.00pm. This event will provide an opportunity to explore new sourcing and public procurement opportunities within the NI Public Procurement Sector.

Chair of the Council’s Economic Development Committee, Alderman Dillon said: “Lisburn City Council are delighted to facilitate this event given the importance of public procurement in Northern Ireland. In 2008-2009, expenditure on public procurement in NI accounted for approximately £2.4 billion of supplies, services and construction works, representing nearly 25% of all public expenditure.’

Lisburn’s ‘Meet the Buyer’ event will see Public sector buyers from across Northern Ireland including Translink, Northern Ireland Water, South Eastern Regional College and Lisburn City Council. These buyers will provide local businesses with access to these tendering opportunities, whilst offering them practical advice and information on the key stages of the procurement process and how it is defined as well as understanding approved supplier lists and frameworks.

Local companies will also get the opportunity to hear from expert guest speaker, Roy Bell from the ‘Central Procurement Directorate.’ The Central Procurement Directorate provides a procurement service to Northern Ireland departments and other public sector bodies for a wide range of supplies and services, ensuring best value for money, legal compliance and competitiveness.

The event will host a series of individual meetings between the buyers and most relevant and suitable local companies. These meetings aim to facilitate and communicate the buyer’s needs and requirements, in the hope of building future supply partnerships.
