Lisburn Councillors resign from DUP

Giving her only newspaper interview of the week, Lisburn and Castlereagh City Councillor Jenny Palmer has spoken to the Ulster Star about the “four years of hell” that she and her family have suffered following a run in with a DUP Special Advisor.

Two years ago Mrs Palmer spoke out on the BBC Spotlight programme about being pressured by the party into changing her vote at a Housing Board meeting.

After the programme aired the party said they would apologise to Mrs Palmer but that was never forthcoming and a two year investigation was carried out by the Deapartment of Social Development into the matter.

That report was published last week and this week Mrs Palmer, together with her husband John and other family members, resigned from the DUP, costing the party their overall majority on Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council.
