Lisburn drummer smashes world record all in memory of Cariss

A Lisburn man has drummed his way into the Guinness World record books for the '˜World's Longest Snare Drum Roll' smashing the previous time by over TEN hours.

Allister Brown set an incredible time of 22 hours and it was all in memory of his wee cousin Cariss Dempster.

Ali started his Guinness World Record breaking attempt on Friday evening at 6.32pm.

After drumming all through the night he broke the world record and Saturday afternoon, hammering the previous record of 12 hours, 5 minutes and 7 seconds.

As well as breaking the world record, an incredible amount of money is set to be raised for two local charities, the Children’s Cancer Fund NI and Children’s Heartbeat Trust NI.

The event was run in conjunction with ‘The Carnival of Life Charity Ball’ at the Ramada Plaza Hotel, Belfast on Saturday evening.

“I promised Cariss and her family that I would do something to help the Children’s Cancer Fund NI and also help raise awareness,” said Ali.

“A friend of mine, Robin Martin has a daughter who suffers with problems with her heart and that’s why the other charity I was raising money for was the Children’s Heartbeat Trust NI.

“These are very important charities and I have wanted to attempt this particular record I decided to do it in conjunction with a charity ball, The Carnival of Life, which I organised along with a friend Glen Houston for both charities.”

Ali has now sent away all evidence of his record breaking set to Guinness World Records, who will verify it and make it official.

He added: “I had set a target of 24 hours and I was close to getting that far, but we all agreed to stop at 22 hours.

“My arms had been cramping for the last three hours of the attempt, but records are there to be broken and I have put down a good record that I hope to keep for a long time.”
