Lisburn gets CCTV system extension

Lisburn City Centre Management, who operate and manage the system on behalf of Lisburn Commerce Against Crime, have worked with Graham Gardens Multi Storey Car Park to site the camera in best location offering coverage from Mckeown Street, across the surface car park and rear of Bow Street properties to Graham Gardens.

There are currently 33 CCTV cameras operated by CityWatch in Lisburn City Centre, Hillsborough, Dunmurry and Moira to deter and detect criminals through the proactive monitoring of movements and activities within these areas.

CityWatch is funded by Lisburn City Council, the Northern Ireland Office (NIO) and the local Private Sector.

Alderman Jim Dillon, Chairman of the Council’s Economic Development Committee commented: “Lisburn City Council are the main funders of the CityWatch scheme and have invested in replacing and upgrading the CCTV monitoring system over the past three years.

“The installation of this latest camera will enhance the capabilities of the existing CityWatch crime prevention scheme, further helping to prevent and detect criminal activity in the City Centre and villages.”

Alderman James Tinsley, Vice Chairman Lisburn Commerce Against Crime, speaking about the camera network, said: “This new camera is the first on the system to be transmitted using wireless technology and offers a more flexible approach to the placement of cameras for public safety in the future. CityWatch now assists police to make over 200 arrests each year and this would be possible without the Council’s ongoing support.”

Lisburn City Council is a member and major funder of Lisburn Commerce Against Crime (LCAC), who operate CityWatch, a partnership established to reduce crime levels in the City Centre.

Chairman Lisburn Commerce Against Crime Ernie Knox concluded: “The comprehensive package of support offered by CityWatch includes Radiolink systems that are used by businesses to communicate with each other and the Police. Through CityWatch local businesses can share information and images working together to help detect and deter crime and keep our City safe for all those who use it.”
