Lisburn goes ‘strictly’ asdancers prepare for fundraiser

THE Irish Ballroom and Waltzing Federation (IBWF) will again be quick stepping into Lisburn to raise funds for this year’s Mayoral Charity, Lisburn 2gether Special Olympics Club.

This afternoon of competitive and social dancing will take place on Sunday March 11 in the Island Hall, Lagan Valley Island from 2.30pm to 5.30pm. The event is suitable for all ages and the music will be provided by Lisburn’s very own ‘Housty’.

The Mayor, Councillor Brian Heading said he was delighted to welcome the IBWF back to Lisburn to help raise money for the Mayoral Charity.

“Last year’s event was popular and I would like to see as many, if not more, dancers and spectators attend this year” Mr Heading said. “Ballroom dancing continues to grow in popularity with each season of the BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing, so I would encourage as many residents as possible who fancy a ‘quick step’ to come along and participate.

“All proceeds from the event and its raffle will go to my chosen charity, Lisburn 2gether Special Olympics Club, making this event all the more special. I am very grateful to the IBWF and Housty for their time and dedication in coordinating this fundraising event and I wish them every success,” he concluded.

Perpetual trophies will be awarded in selected IBWF syllabus categories. The cost of entry for competitors is £10.00/€12.50 and for spectators and social dancers is £5.00/€8.00.

Doors will open at 1.30pm with competition registration taking place at 2.30pm.
