Lisburn homeowner looks to the groundfor his heating needs

A LISBURN homeowner has started getting heating and hot water from an unlikely source.

Northern Ireland Electricity (NIE) SMART Programme has given Simon Bamford a grant enabling him to install a new heat pump.

Simon’s new ground source heat pump means he can provide his home with efficient, renewable heating and hot water, not only saving on his energy bills but also protecting the environment.

Simon explained the heat pump works “by taking heat from the ground and using electricity to boost this heat to a level that is needed for our home’s heating system.”

He said he had Lisburn’s environment in mind when he chose to have the heat pump installed as he said it would “reduce our reliance on fossil fuels.”

Kirsty Pollock, from Power NI said they were delihgted local people are embracing renewable technology.

She said she hoped the example would encourage more homeowners to recognise the economic and environmental benefits.
