The workmates aim to reach the top of the 747m Slieve Binnian on Sunday 8 September to boost funds for the Iceland Foods Charitable Foundation, which has raised £2.2 million for the Alzheimer’s Research UK in the last two years.

Kathleen McClafferty, a Retail Assistant at Iceland’s Lisburn store, organised the climb. She said: “It will be a beautiful walk and fun doing it all together. We know it’s going to be tough but it will be worth it to raise money to defeat Alzheimer’s – it’s a disease that devastates so many lives. Since our Charitable Foundation has been supporting Alzheimer’s Research UK it’s really opened our eyes to how many people are affected and the lack of funding for new treatments.

“It’s good to know we’re making a difference and we’ve gone all out at our store this year to raise as much money as possible. During our charity week in August we arranged all sorts of in-store activities, from face painting to fancy dress, and our customers have been so generous. We’re also holding a party night on 14 September for staff, family and friends to boost funds even more.”

Liam Russell, Manager of Iceland’s Lisburn store, added: “Kathleen has done a fantastic job coordinating our store’s charity events and getting all the staff motivated.”
