The ‘Buy a Brick – and help rebuild our hospice’ campaign was launched this week by Northern Ireland Hospice and Una Crudden, who is terminally ill, presented a cheque to the charity for £10,000.

A building wrap to highlight the campaign was unveiled at the Hospice Shop in Longstone Street. Una was joined by her family and friends as she helped unveil the campaign. Suffering from ovarian cancer Una has been campaigning to help raise awareness and early detection of the disease. The tireless campaigner has recorded a CD Angel of Hope and to date has raised thousands of pounds for the Northern Ireland Hospice.

Lisburn businesses, community groups, politicians and schools are also pledging their support to help build a new Hospice.

Speaking at a reception in the Lisnagarvey Bowling Green club house Una highlighted the need to support building a new hospice.

“I feel privileged to help launch the Buy a Brick campaign in my Council area, Lisburn. In December 2009 I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. I had been attending the doctor for three months and he told me it was Irritable Bowel Syndrome. I am now living each day to the full and my Angel of Hope CD is helping me raise awareness about early detection as well as raising money for this wonderful charity. Everyone in NI has been directly or indirectly touched by the work of NI Hospice and we never know when we or our family will need to use it. I am grateful to everyone who has bought my CD and helped me raise £10,000 to support building a new hospice at Somerton Road.”
