Lisburn man banned from the roads on two driving charges

Darren Kane, 44, from Lisnoe Walk, appeared at Lisburn Magistrates Court this week charged with driving a vehicle without insurance.

He was also charged with having no driving licence.

The court heard that the defendant drove a Peugeot Van on Longstone Street on April 1, 2014. Checks by the police revealed that the defendant had no insurance for the vehicle in question. Subsequent investigations revealed the defendant was not in possession of a valid driving licence.

Defence said Kane had committed no further offences since April. “He appreciates there is a lot at stake and he won’t re-offend,” he said.

District Judge Rosie Watters banned the defendant from driving for 12 months on each of the two charges.

She also ordered the defendant complete a Probation Order of 18 months, with the added condition that the defendant complete the ‘Think First’ programme.

“If you breach the order you will be brought back before the court,” warned Ms Watters.
