Lisburn man to feature in special Holy Week concert

DOWN Cathedral Choir are ‘singing the changes’ for their annual Holy Week concert this year, at which a Lisburn man will feature as a soloist.

They will be joined by Cadenza to perform Olivet to Calvary by John Henry (JH) Maunder on Monday April 2. Both choirs are directed by Michael McCracken, who will also be conducting the concert.

Olivet to Calvary is a sacred cantata which recalls some of the incidents during the last days of Christ’s life on earth.

Although less well-known than other pieces sung traditionally during Holy Week, such as Stainer’s Crucifixion and Fauré’s Requiem – both performed by the choir and Cadenza in the Cathedral in the last two years – Olivet is a magnificent Victorian oratorio which deserves a wider audience.

Lisburn man Ian Milford (Tenor), who is Director of Fusion Theatre, along with Michael Brown (Bass) will be the soloists and the organist is Richard Campbell.

The concert begins in Down Cathedral at 8pm on April 2, and admission is £8 at the door. Proceeds will go to Cathedral funds and charity.
