Lisburn pensioner admits causing death in Strabane

A fatal road traffic accident near Strabane last year, has resulted in a Lisburn pensioner pleading guilty to a charge of causing death or grievous bodily injury by driving without due care and attention, at Dungannon Crown Court.

James Maurice Henderson, Limehill Road,Lisburn admitted causing the death of Alexander McEntree by driving a mechanically propelled vehicle without due care and attention at Mulvin Road, Victoria Bridge, Strabane on January 3 2014.

He also pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm to Hazel Henderson by driving a mechanically propelled vehicle without due care and attention at Mulvin Road, Victoria Bridge, Strabane on January 3 2014.

Prosecutor Simon Reid told the court that the prosecution would need time to get victim impact statements.

There were no mechanical defects on the car, and the incident happened on a shallow bend where the defendant went straight ahead, the court heard.

Mr Reid said the defendant had no memory of the incident.

Defence Counsel Gerald Simpson, QC said his client had a pre booked family holiday later this month.

Judge Melody McReynolds adjourned the case until October 21 for a plea and sentence.

The judge also ordered a pre sentence report to be prepared by October 19.
