Lisburn screening of Good Will Hunting to raise money for PIPS

PIPS, the suicide and self-harm prevention charity, in conjunction with Omniplex Cinemas, hopes to raise much-needed funds with screenings across Northern Ireland of the Oscar-winning 1997 movie Good Will Hunting.

The movie, starring the late Robin Williams, will be shown at 11 local cinemas, including the Lisburn Omniplex, at 6.30pm on Tuesday, August 26.

Seats can be reserved by making a donation of £7 through the Omniplex site at www.omniplex.ie.

Maria Morgan, Chairperson of PIPS in North Belfast, said: “Our services are open to everyone. As we are not core funded we depend on donations, so we are very grateful to Omniplex Group for this fantastic event, as it will help us to keep open on a day to day basis.

“And we are needed desperately. Our youngest client, aged 8, came to us after telling her mummy to get used to not seeing her as she had to go. Our oldest, a man aged 82, had lost his wife and couldn’t face life without his best friend. Both are coping using the skills received from our counsellors.

“At present more males are using our services - the majority are aged 33-55, but we do see a lot of younger males. We see young girls aged 13-17 suffering from self-harm and an increase in older people taking their own lives, in their 60s 70s and even 80s, as their marriages break up.”
