Lisburn Tata Steel jobs are '˜safe'

Seventy-two jobs in the Tata Steel operation in Lisburn are safe, according to Lagan Valley UKIP candidate Brian Higginson who has welcomed the news.

“When I enquired recently Tata told me that the Lisburn plant, like Scunthorpe, was in the final stages of being sold to Greybull Capital,” he said.

“Now that the deal they promised has been concluded, I can only say there is a great sense of relief in Lisburn.

“I understand that the final sale included the Scunthorpe steelworks, two mills in Teesside, an engineering workshop in Workington, a design consultancy in York and associated distribution facilities, as well as a mill in northern France.

“I was somewhat reassured a couple of weeks ago when Tata told me the deal was all but completed and today’s announcement confirms that promise.

“I am delighted for all the workers in Tata, Lisburn and wish them well under the new management. UKIP in Lisburn will be keeping a close watch on developments.”
