Lisburn to host Toastmasters

This weekend Lagan Valley Toastmasters will be hosting clubs from far and wide at the Civic Centre for an area competition.

The local Toastmasters club was established last year and has been proving to be a great success.

President and Area Governor Stephen Morrow explained: “We held the first area competition last November and another is planned for Saturday, with clubs coming from Drogheda, Dundalk, Cookstown, Newry and Belfast.”

Members of the public are invited along to the competition, which starts at 2pm on Saturday (March 29) to find out what Toastmasters is all about.

The Lisburn based club meet on the first and third Wednesday of the month and have been attracting new members every month. “We have eleven members at the minute but we would love more,” continued Stephen.

“The club is not for people who are already polished at public speaking, it is for people who are terrified of it and want to improve.

“There are around 300,000 members of Toastmasters worldwide and we welcome everyone from 18-118,” he added.

“We would like to have as many members as possible in Lisburn and I am confident that the city is capable of sustaining that. People can go along as a guest for three meetings and then they can decide if they want to join,”

The Toastmasters organisation has over 90 years of experience in providing a supportive learning environment for those who want to improve and enjoy their public speaking skills.

Whether you want to be the managing director of a company, deliver a speech at a friend’s wedding or become the next Mayor of Lisburn, Lagan Valley Toastmasters is there to help you turn nervousness into a high octane hobby.
