Lisburnartistasks forsupport

Lisburn artist Clinton Kirkpatrick has come up with an unusual way of raising the money he needs to display his work in a prestigious exhibition in the National Museum in Kenya.

Clinton is hoping that local people will help to sponsor his exhibition in Kenya and in return they will get a unique piece of work that Clinton will design especially for them.

As well as unique pieces of art, people can also receive a postcard from Kenya, a catalogue from the exhibition, a letter from Clinton whilst he is in Kenya, a disposable camera, a drawing, or a woodcut created in Kenya.

This will be Clinton’s third visit to Kenya and he will be displaying work inspired by his time in the country.

The exhibition will take place in May. However, the transportation of Clinton’s work, some of which is large scale, will be a costly enterprise but he is hoping local art enthusiasts will be keen to support him.

“This exhibition is about taking my work to the people and country that it is all about,” explained Clinton.

“This opportunity is a certain marker for my life as an artist which is my first ever international exhibition and I am seeking help to realise and fulfil this in 2014.

“The total cost of this trip will be in the region of £5,000 and I am hoping to raise the money in many different ways.

“Crowd-funding enables me to not just accept money from people but instead offer something back which is intimate and on a personal level.

“I have also been writing applications to organisations and I will be self-funding a part of the trip.”
