Lisnagarvey Operatic Society to stage Jesus Christ Superstar

Lisnagarvey Operatic Society is set to bring the Andrew Lloyd Webber classic ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ to the Island Hall in Lisburn from April 21-25.

The musical, with lyrics by Tim Rice and the legendary Andrew Lloyd Webber follows the story of the last seven Days of Christ in the form of a Rock Opera - from the arrival in Jerusalem to the Crucifixion.

With an award-winning production team including Direction by Wilfie Pyper, musical direction from Ian Milford and choreography from Clare Donnelly, this new revival of the show hopes to move, inspire and entertain audiences with emotional performances from a strong line up of principals featuring talent from across the province, including Orla McCormack as Mary, Sean Harkin as Judas and Adam Williamson, who was recently seen in Fusion Theatre’s Aida, as Jesus.

Garnering much controversy for it’s original Broadway run in 1971, nearly fifty years on the show is still as edgy and relevant as ever.

The story is depicted from Judas’ point of view and the clever writing style lends itself to modernisation of a classic story, with contemporary attitudes, slang and ironic allusions scattered throughout - both the production team and the company hope that this new daring interpretation of this classic show will hit the right note when it takes to the stage after months of rehearsals.

With generous support from the Lisburn Arts Advisory Committee, the society hopes that this show, seen as one of the modern great musicals, will be one of their most successful yet, and will add yet another string to their bow expanding their repertoire further.

Tickets for this new revival of ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’, which runs from April 21-25, are available at the Island Hall Box Office on 02892 509 254, or can be booked online at www.laganvalleyisland.co.uk. Early booking is advised.
