Lisneal girl Loren’s art onshow in Belfast

Visitors to the Museum can get a glimpse of the future stars of the Northern Ireland arts scene when they take in the CCEA ‘True Colours’ exhibition during January and February.

Seventy five young artists - including Loren - were selected by CCEA to showcase their GCSE and GCE Art and Design work from the summer 2012 examination period.

Lauren Doherty and Kirsty Hegarty from St Mary’s College, Hannah Vail from Thornhill College and Kevin Gallagher from St Columb’s College are also among the artists on display.

Artist Ross Wilson officially opened the exhibition on Thursday, January 10, in front of the student exhibitors, their family, friends and teachers.

He commented: “CCEA’s vibrant True Colours exhibition will surely brighten up the dreary month of January for visitors to the Ulster Museum. It is a pleasure and honour for me to see at first hand the work of so many talented young people.

“I have found the eclectic mix of design, printmaking, painting and sculpture both inspiring and encouraging. I look forward to hearing the names of many of these students in the years to come as they progress in the field of art and design.”

Richard Hanna, CCEA’s Chief Executive, commented: “True Colours is very much a fixture in the educational calendar. It is both a celebration of the excellent art and design work in our schools, and an opportunity for students and teachers to come along and see what it takes to make the top grades.

“The Ulster Museum is a perfect backdrop to highlight the wonderful talent of our young people and we hope lots of people will come and view this public exhibition, throughout the rest of January and into February.”
