Lisneal's anti-litter DVD

FOLLOWING on from their success in winning the Anti-Litter Mayoral campaign, spearheaded by former Mayor Gerard Diver, Lisneal College have unveiled their 'Live In Your Litter' anti-litter DVD.

The school was awarded the top prize, 1000, to spend on environmental initiatives within the school to highlight the problem of litter and the importance of looking after our environment.

As part of the project Year 10 pupils, for the duration of one week, ate their break and lunch in their classroom, subsequently leaving their rubbish and leaving it build up over the five days. To chart the experiment a video diary logged the thoughts and feelings of the students at various stages throughout the week.

David Funston, principal, said: "We wanted to chronicle an interactive experience where pupils would, as time went on, come to realise that litter is something we simply don't have to do, and don't want to live with. The school worked with The Nerve Centre production company and developed and produced their winning idea on DVD which will now be used as an education tool in schools to help illustrate and drive home the issues the problems associated with littering."

Speaking at the launch, Councillor Gerard Diver said: "I must congratulate everyone involved in putting this DVD together. Much hard work and dedication has gone into this project, which has now left an educational legacy which the college and its pupils can learn from for many years to come."

The DVD is being made available for general educational use. For more information contact Julie Hannaway, Recycling Officer, Derry City Council by telephoning 028 7136 5151.
