Charlie, whose mum Cliodhna is from Cookstown, has been battling Acute Myeloid Leukaemia since January 2013 and underwent a bone marrow transplant procedure earlier this year after a part donor match was found on the global register.

Three-year-old Charlie was discharged from Bristol Children’s Hospital in June this year but his parents Cliodhna and Fintan were told he would have to remain in Bristol so he could be monitored by doctors for a number of weeks.

Charlie’s family said this week that he would be going back into hospital today for further infusion of donor stem cells.

Posting on Facebook Charlie’s auntie Kelly-Jo Eastwood said: “His T cells have levelled out in 60’s and we need them to be in the 90s. As previously mentioned, this is going to be a long journey for Charlie, one which we are still in the midst of. It is ever so important to maintain the prayer. Please note that the family are currently consumed with Charlie’s care and therefore we ask that all messages of support (incl text & phone calls) be reserved to this page. Thanks to all of you thus far for all your ongoing prayers which are sustaining this beautiful little boy.”

Earlier this year, over 1,000 people turned out in Cookstown and Belfast to register as donors inspired by brave Charlie.
