‘Little guy’ Liam takes on big challenge

A two-year-old Lisburn lad wants to see the colour of your money before he toddles off on a five-kilometre charity fundraiser later this year.

Hopes are high that Liam ‘little guy’ Moran will complete a ‘solo’ outing in the 5K Colour Run Challenge in Belfast, an untimed race in which paricipants are doused in different colours at each kilometre along the way.

With the help of mum Carlie and a social media campaign, little Liam managed to reach his initial £100 target within 100 hours, along the way gathering up messages of support from around the world.

“He is only two years old,” said Carlie, “and in August he will be taking part in a 5K run - toddle in his case - to raise money for Save the Children.

“The aim is for him to walk the whole thing by himself and we are really optimistic that he will manage it.

“Obviously it is a very long way for little legs and a really big challenge for him, so we are really trying to spread the word as much as possible and really try to raise as much money as we possibly can for this wonderful cause.”

In an online message to potential supporters, ‘Liam himself’ has this to say: “I couldn’t do it last year because I didn’t know about it then.

“Also, there was the very small technicality of me not really being able to walk so well (I was only a year old) but this year I’m nearly two years old and that’s big!

“Also, by the time August comes round I will be two years and one month and that’s even bigger still, so yeah, provided I don’t get distracted by the colours and try to lick blue off the pavement I’m pretty confident I’m going to smash this.”

“ . . . I plan to walk the whole thing (just over three miles) all by myself, although obviously my mummy and daddy will be with me and if I get really tired I might make one of them carry me (and by one of them what I mean is mummy . . . . although mummy has been saying that if I kick off and she has to carry my heavy bum for three miles round the track while I scream in her ear and people throw colours at her she is going to make me make up the distance by doing laps of the car park so people get their money’s worth.”
