Liverpool ‘Legends’ regale Carrick audience

Liverpool fans have enjoyed a trip down memory lane with the visit to Carrick of two players from the Merseyside club’s golden era.

Former England striker David Johnson and ex-Republic of Ireland midfielder Ronnie Whelan were at the Loughshore Hotel for the Liverpool ‘Legends’ evening.

David Johnson played for Liverpool from 1976 to 1982, scoring 55 goals in 148 appearances and winning a haul of trophies including three European Cups.

Ronnie Whelan was at the club from 1979 to 1994 and his successes included six First Division titles, three FA Cups and a European Cup.

The duo regaled the 350-strong audience with their stories about life with the famous club.

They were ably supported by impersonator Darren Farley, labelled the “voice of football” for his hilarious impressions of the biggest names in the game.

The event was organised by Keith Norris, from County Antrim Milk Cup Committee, with all proceeds going towards the squad who will take part in next month’s youth tournament.

The trio - along with the European Cup - also called in at Greenisland Football Club on Thursday morning.

Keith said he was “very impressed” by the visitors and expressed thanks to all who supported and helped with the event.
