Local area on map with Game of Thrones app

The free app, which was launched by NI Screen last week, features 21 publicly-accessible locations from the fantasy series’ shoots around the Province, two of which are at Knockdhu in Cairncastle.

The app is the latest attempt to capitalise on the Province’s links with the blockbuster television programme, and comes a month after Mid and East Antrim Borough Council agreed to spend around £2000 on two Game of Thrones signs at Knockdhu and Shilnavogy Valley.

The new app details how Knockdhu doubled for the North of Winterfell in season one, when Lord Eddard Stark executes a deserter from the Night’s Watch.

It also shows a scene from series five, when Sansa Stark is seen at Moat Cailin on the Neck before returning to Winterfell with Lord Petyr Baelish.

Chief Executive of Northern Ireland Screen Richard Williams said: “Game of Thrones has now become a huge part of Northern Ireland culture and we know the appetite for information about the show is vast around the world. We hope that the app will allow visitors and fans of Game of Thrones to see the massive part the Northern Ireland landscape plays in the series.”
