Local business closes its doors

STAFF at a Ballymoney business are out of work just weeks before Christmas.

FastPak Frozen Foods based at Ballybrakes Business Park shut its doors on Thursday.

The firm specialised in distributing frozen, chilled and dry goods to the catering industry.

The news was said to have come as a shock to staff at FastPak and around 10 workers are affected.

North Antrim DUP MLA Mervyn Storey said it was yet another blow to the town and sympathised with those involved.

“There’s a human story behind every job lost here,” he said.

“What worries me is that we don’t seem to be seeing any halt to the loss of jobs in the area.”

FastPak proprietor Brendan O’Kane confirmed the closure.

He said he did not wish to make any further comment at this stage.
