Local businessescelebrate successes

LISBURN City Council recently hosted its annual ‘Celebration of Success’ Networking Lunch at the Lagan Valley Island Centre.

At this event local Lisburn based businesses had the opportunity to share their successes, which have been achieved over the last twelve months through participation in a wide range of Council funded business development programmes.

The Mayor of Lisburn, Councillor Brian Heading, who attended the event, said: “I would like to thank all the businesses who participated in Council funded business development programmes and other economic development initiatives which the Council supported throughout 2010-11. On behalf of the Council I would like to congratulate each business on its individual success and more importantly commend the ongoing commitment of local businesses to continue to develop and expand the local economy.”

Over the past twelve months the Council has directly supported 86 local companies; as well as providing information and advice to many more businesses through workshops and information seminars, such as those organised through the Lisburn Entrepreneurs Network.

Speaking at the event, Alderman Allan Ewart, Vice-Chairman of the Council’s Economic Development Committee, highlighted the success of the programmes. “Initial results from programme evaluation reports received by the Council have indicated significant results; and prove the value of these programmes to local businesses, the Council and the local economy,” he said.

“These included: over 200 new sales meetings were facilitated; actual new sales of almost £17,000 have been generated to date, with in excess of £2 million of future sales predicted. There have also been quotations submitted worth approximately £300,000, and one business development programme is predicting that between nine and 12 new jobs will be created,” he concluded.

Lisburn City Council’s Economic Development Unit continues to support and work with all local companies with a drive and an interest in developing their business and taking it to the next level in terms of business growth and improved competitiveness. In the current economic climate, local companies are encouraged to take advantage of the support provided by the Council’s Economic Development Unit.
