Local charity SPOH helps car crash survivor from Ahoghill

A young Ahoghill man is the latest road accident victim to receive support from local charity, The SPOH (Shaun-Paul O’Hagan) Charitable Trust.

The Trust was formed in early November 2008 by parents, relatives and friends of Shaun-Paul O’Hagan who was tragically killed in a road traffic accident (RTA) on New Year’s morning, 2007, aged just 26.

It’s aim is to raise money for the survivors of RTA’s, and their families, who may need medical care/equipment or financial support to improve the quality of their lives and promote their independence.

Just one year after being established in memory of Shaun-Paul by his parents, Sinead and Sean O’Hagan, from Glenravel, the charity had raised the £6,000 necessary to buy a specialist voice output communication machine for Cara, one of the four young people who were in the car with Shaun-Paul at the time of the crash.

And, last week, RTA survivor Martin McKenna from Ahoghill became the latest recipient of such a communication aid courtesy of the fantastic fund raising efforts of the SPOH Charitable Trust’s many supporters.

Trust founder, Sinead paid tribute to all those who have helped “from day one” and who continue to give the Trust their support and help to raise funds.

She said the charity was very much in a position to help others and is very keen to hear from potential recipients.

“We are continuing to fund raise and just want people who could benefit from our help to come forward to us,” she said.
