Local couple cancel Paris honeymoon after attacks

The couple were married at Cuningham Memorial Church, Cullybackey on Saturday, November 14 but were forced to cancel their visit to Paris that morning.

More than 120 people died and dozens more were injured when Islamic extremists carried out bomb and gun attacks at seven locations across the French capital on Friday night.

Jonathan and Adele were due to fly to London on Monday morning before getting the Eurostar into Paris.

He said: “I was out for dinner on Friday when the message came through from Adele about the attacks and I couldn’t believe it.

“After a long night of discussion I sent an email to cancel the honeymoon.

“We were both very disappointed but when you think about what has happened, having to cancel is not really a big deal in the long run.

“Our thoughts are with those caught up in this tragedy.”

Meanwhile, Mid and East Antrim Borough Council has opened Books of Condolence for the victims of the terrorist attacks in Paris.

The Mayor of Mid and East Antrim Borough, Councillor Billy Ashe was the first to sign and has urged that as many people as possible follow his example.

He said: “When the people of Mid and East Antrim Borough sign the Books of Condolence that means we will then be able to offer their heartfelt sympathies to those bereaved and injured due to the terrorist attacks in Paris on Friday 13 November.

The Mayor continued: “I would urge people to sign the Books of Condolence for those who lost their lives or were injured in the Paris attacks.”

Mid and East Antrim Borough’s ‘Books of Condolence for victims of the Paris Attacks’ will be available from Monday afternoon at The Braid, Ballymena, Carrickfergus Town Hall and the Smiley Buildings in Larne.
