Local design company hosts reception for Paralympic medallist

JAMES Leckey Design Ltd, a global leader in the development of rehabilitation products for people with disabilities, recently held a celebratory reception for Michael McKillop Paralympic Double Gold Medallist at the company’s new premises on the Ballinderry Road in Lisburn.

The fun event was well supported by the employees and their families who all came along to meet Michael and to congratulate him on his fantastic performance.

James Leckey the CEO commented: “We are incredibly proud and honoured to be associated with Michael and he has been a superb ambassador for our company through his regular appearances and speaking engagements at key exhibitions and conferences around the UK.

“Everyone at Leckey has been following and supporting Michael throughout the London games and we are delighted to have the opportunity to congratulate him during this reception. He is a truly inspirational young man and has demonstrated that by focusing on your ability and not your disability you can achieve anything you want to in life. This reception also gave our employees the opportunity to show their families around the new factory and to let them see the products they help to design, manufacture and export around the world on a daily basis.

“It’s the first time we have held any sort of public event at our new premises and it was a roaring success.”

Leckey currently sponsor Paralympic Double Gold Medallist Michael McKillop who has a mild form of cerebral palsy. Michael won his two gold medals for the 800m and 1500m at London 2012.

He was also named as the male athlete who best exemplified the spirit of the Paralympics at the games in London and was selected to receive the Whang Youn Dai Achievement Award.

James Leckey Design Ltd completed the move to their purpose build premises in June 2012.

The relocation to the new factory with its increased manufacturing capacity is a vital building block for the company’s export led growth plans which should lead to increased employment opportunities in the local community over the next few years.

James Leckey Design Ltd manufactures special seating systems, standing frames and other disability aids which are used by children, teens and adults with cerebral palsy.

The company employs over 100 people, most of whom are based at the Ballinderry Road facility in Lisburn.
