Local Dyslexia Support Group open meetings

THIS Thursday, September 30, will see the first in a series of four open meetings being staged in Slemish College's Sixth Form Centre by the local Dyslexia Support Group.

The group has been running successfully in the College for the past year having been initated by the Parents’ Council in conjunction with the Learning Support Department.

It’s aim is to address the concerns and rising number of students with dyslexia.

Following expressions of interest from the wider community, the group has decided to host four meetings throughout the academic year to support the parents of dyslexic students.

The first of these, on Thursday, will feature Mr Manson, school examination officer, secondary level, and it will be followed by meetings on -

Thursday, November 18: Parents’ own experiences with speakers Clodagh Elliott and Marion Gilkinson.

Thursday, January 20: Colin Millar from Newtownards Model Primary School.

Thursday, March 24: Olievenne McDaid, a dyslexia specialist from the University of Ulster.

All meetings will take place in Slemish College Sixth Centre from 7.30pm-9pm.

Parents of any children of primary or secondary age throughout the borough are invited to attend any or all of the meetings.
